bubbl.us is a free web-based mind mapping program. I used it to create the mind map at right as I began the process of designing a workbook on time management.
Mind mapping is popular with visual and non-linear thinkers. It's also a useful way to organize content when working collaboratively with a group.
One of the nice features of bubbl.us is that it allows you to share your mind maps electronically with others, and to choose whether you will allow them read only or full edit privileges.
You can print your mind maps, or export as an image file.
While not as full-featured as some mind map programs, it's a nice free tool (there is a paypal button if you want to make an optional donation to the programmers). You will be asked to create an account before you can save, print, export, or share your map, but you can start creating a mind map without logging in. Use it to explore if mind mapping might work well for you. Or connect your computer to a projector and use it in a company brainstorming session.
