How to recycle that electronic thing-a-mah-jig

Ever wondered how to recycle that electronic thing-a-mah-jig you received for your birthday two years ago? You know, the one that your curbside recycling company won't touch with a ten-foot pole? Check out Amazon's list of recycling programs and websites that will help point you in the right direction to recycle most anything. I like that they also include a capsule review of each site's "plusses" and "minuses".

Of course, I also point you to the Donating & Recycling list I have kept on my website for the last 10 years. Two differences:

  • The Amazon site encourages trade-in's with links to sites where you get an Amazon Gift Card for the trade-in value of your old gadget.
  • My site has a preponderance of Ventura County donation and recycling sites, but can be used to get ideas for your local area. There are some wonderful local programs that can put your donated items to use, and you can chose a cause that speaks to your heart. For instance, even if your old cell phone has a $ value, I still prefer to donate old cell phones to victims of domestic violence - so every victim has an immediate way to call 911. Details on my site.
