Progress! Top tray diminished from 2.75 inches to 2.0 inches, middle tray diminished from 2.25 inches to 0.75 inches, and bottom tray diminished from 1.75 inches to 1.25 inches.
That's a total of 2.25 inches less paper in one week. The key was the commitment I made to a paper management class I was teaching. Ironic? It's not like it's rocket science - which reminds me of a favorite quote:
"Our two greatest problems are gravity and paperwork. We can lick gravity,
but sometimes the paperwork is overwhelming."
-Dr. Wernher Von Braun, early NASA scientist
Because of my public commitment, it simply was more important to spend a few minutes on the paper daily rather than use the usual rationale that I had more pressing things to do.
By the way, the top tray is my "To read" pile, the middle tray is my "Action" pile [non-urgent items to complete in the next 30 days], and the bottom tray is my "File" pile.
The photo was taken on 2/20/08 at 4:06pm. Took me a bit longer to upload, as I was ill, but class participants can confirm that I showed them this photo that evening.
I'll be teaching the class again in the fall - sign up for my newsletter if you want advance notice of the next time it's offered. Or give me a call to discuss bringing the workshop to your workplace.
