I've written previously of prioritizing by goals, but what if they're all worthwhile tasks that will move you closer to your goals? This can induce its own paralysis.
A wise man once told me that when you're stuck, it doesn't matter where you start, just do something. Anything you do will move you forward in more than one area.
I was reminded of this today as I slogged through workshop evaluations that had piled up. I thought of this as an administrative task that needed to get done, unrelated to my big plan for the weekend: to work on marketing goals for next year. Yet I found some great testimonial quotes in those evaluations that will be perfect in my marketing efforts.
Earlier this week, I prepared for an upcoming speech by listening to an audio recording of the last time I gave the speech. As I did so, I realized some of the information would be great blog material (my favorite time management tool - using material I've already created in a new way).
So the next time you find yourself overwhelmed with equally compelling tasks, just pick one and get started. I guarantee it will have a positive effect on at least one other task on your list.
