In Feng Shui, clutter is “blocked energy”. I think we can all relate. Everything that piles up has a little voice reminding us we have to do something with it. Eventually, there are so many things to do that we don’t know where to start. That’s paralysis.
Here are a few tips to conquer paralysis:
Ever felt the peace and clarity that ensues after you’ve cleared a room to prepare for painting or visitors? In an emergency, totally clear the space. Everything on your desk in one pile, or everything extraneous in a room into another room. The catch is not to forget what is now “out of sight, out of mind”. Calendar a few minutes daily to purge what you cleared. Maintain the clarity by keeping as yet unpurged material where you stashed it for the “emergency”.
Purge by time, not project. The thought of reorganizing all your books or the 1000 messages you’ve let pile up in your email inbox [yes, this is a real example] could easily overwhelm you, but setting aside 20 minutes a day and stopping when the alarm goes off is much more manageable. Set the alarm for two thirds of the time you’ve budgeted; use your remaining time to put away everything you decide goes elsewhere or should be donated.
Pick a small area to work on. One drawer, cabinet, shelf, or corner of a room at a time. Pick a visible area to start; it will give you pleasure and motivate you to continue every time you see it anew.

Since I seem to suffer from "Clutteritis" I found these suggestions give me hope! I seem to always think that every chore must be completed the same day I begin the chore. Intellectually I know that's unrealistic, and having these suggestions make me feel as though I actually have control over the situation. Thank you so much!!
